DiolazeXL effectively eliminates unwanted hair growth as long as the hair possesses pigment. While the laser can target light hair, it’s unable to treat white hair as the laser requires visible pigment in the hair for optimal effectiveness.
Contraindications to treatment
There are some patients that we absolutely cannot treat, these include.
- Anyone undergoing cancer treatment
- Anyone with active cold sores
- Pregnant women
- Anyone who is currently on Accutane or has been in the last 6 months.
- Tattoos or permanent makeup in the area to be treated.
- Uncontrolled diabetes
- Someone who has had Botox or fillers in the area to be treated in the last 14 days.
Treatment schedule
- 4-6 sessions are needed and they need to be scheduled no more then 4-6 weeks apart.
- Depending on additional factors like hair texture, hair color, and specific problem areas, the number of follow-ups required for any given patient will vary.
Side-effects
DiolazeXL is an advanced laser hair removal technology known for its efficiency and minimal side effects. However, as with any medical procedure, there can be potential side effects, although they are typically mild and temporary. These may include:
- Redness and Swelling: Immediately after treatment, some redness and mild swelling in the treated area might occur, which usually subsides within a few hours to a day.
- Skin Sensitivity: The treated area might feel sensitive or slightly irritated for a short period after the procedure.
- Pigment Changes: In rare cases, temporary changes in skin pigmentation, such as lightening or darkening, might occur, especially in individuals with darker skin tones.
- Crusting or Scabbing: Very rarely, mild crusting or scabbing might develop in the treated area, which typically resolves within a week.
- Rare Complications: Although extremely rare, more severe side effects such as burns, blistering, or scarring might occur, especially if the treatment settings are too aggressive or if post-treatment care instructions are not followed properly.
Procedure
- First a thorough consultation is done to see if you are an ideal candidate for Diolaze XL. We will go over expectations for treatments, areas you wish to treat and an estimate for number of treatments needed (usually 4-6 per area)
- During your session we carefully examine the skin to make sure it is safe to proceed with treatment. Some reasons we would have to postpone a session are sunburn, rashes, any large injury to the skin, and a full area that hasn’t been prepped properly.
- The first step is cleansing your skin, this helps get rid of any excess oils and debris on the treatment area. We need a clean canvas for the laser to do the best job it can. It also helps to reduce the spread of bacteria around the body.
- Next we mark the skin with a white pencil so we have a map to follow for treatment areas. This way we keep you safe by not over treating an area.
- Clear ultrasound jelly is applied to the area about to be treated, and then we proceed with a custom service. The settings we use are different for every person and we decide them during the initial consultation after considering many factors, including Fitzpatrick score.
- After we complete the laser treatment, we take off the gel and apply soothing products to minimize redness.
- Pre-treatment care
- After your consultation you will have all the necessary information to come prepared properly to your first appointment.
- 4 weeks prior to treatment
- Avoid any tanning for 3-4 weeks prior to treatment AND use SPF 30+ sunscreen. This includes sunless tanning like spray tans and tanning lotions.
- For your safety, any patient arriving with a tan or sunburn may be rescheduled.
- Do not wax, tweeze or use depilatory creams. The laser treatment requires hair to be present in the hair shaft and follicle to be effective. Shaving only!
- 1 week prior to treatment
- Avoid irritant topical agents on treatment area for 2-3 days before appointment. (Retinol, Vitamin C ect.)
- Avoid other esthetic procedures in the area to be treated for 1 week. This includes any other laser treatment or chemical peels.
- Day of treatment
- The treatment area needs to be freshly shaved – absolutely no visible hair. (There will be a charge for large areas of hair that need to be shaved)
- The treatment area needs to be clean and free of makeup, lotions, deodorant or sunscreens.
- Be sure to notify your provider if there have been any changes to your health or your medications since your last visit. Some medications may cause you to be more sensitive to laser hair removal and may result in burns or an allergic reaction.
- Notify your provider of any cold sores, rashes, or open wounds ANYWHERE on your body (not just in the treatment area).
Post-treatment care
- Some slight itching, redness and discomfort is normal right after the appointment. You might notice some darker looking hairs coming out of your skin. These are the hair bulbs that appear darker and it is a good sign that you had a thorough and effective treatment. They don’t happen to everyone all the time.
- Avoid any physical activity that raises body temperature or blood pressure for 2 hours post-treatment
- Avoid using seat warmers right after the session
- Use Aloe Vera on the treated area for 1-2 days following your treatment if needed.
- Lightly exfoliate treated areas every 2-3 days after your treatment to minimize the risk of ingrown hairs.
- No tanning or extensive sun/ UV exposure for a week post-treatment. Use lots of sunscreen or cover your body with fabric if going outside. (Even in winter)
- Don’t get any other procedures done on the treated area for 2 weeks.
- In the rare case you experience any side effects, such as hypo- or hyper-pigmentation, prolonged redness or swelling, or blistering, call the clinic or come in for instructions on treatment.
- To achieve the best results, complete the full treatment schedule at the recommended intervals (typically 4-6 weeks).
